FUNERAL
SERVICE
In
November 2000, IAWV acquired a section in Graceland Memorial Park, an already
established cemetery with perpetual care, to develop the Muslim Cemetery.
Graceland Memorial Park is located in an easily accessible and rapidly growing
area of South Charleston, off corridor G (Route 119), close to South Ridge
shopping center.
The
Muslim Cemetery is located close to the main entrance and is marked by a
prominent plaque.
The
Cost:
-
The
burial plots and the covering cement domes are made available to the
community at cost without any profit or markup by IAWV.
-
The
cost of an adult burial plot is $500, and the especially custom-made cement
dome, required to prevent ground settlement, is an additional $500.
-
The
ground opening and closing charges are negotiated on yearly basis and
currently are $775 for weekdays and $875 on weekends and holidays.
-
The
additional expenses for funeral home are usually between $2000-$3000 and
include transportation, funeral director’s service charges and price of
the replacement liner for reusable coffin.
-
These
prices are fixed for one year and are subject to go up in future.
IAWV intends to replace each sold plot with a new plot in adjoining
strip at the future price. The price of the lots offered to the community,
therefore, is expected to go up in future.
-
The
local Muslims can take advantage of current prices, which are well below the
open market price, by buying these lots and domes in advance and saving
their families from hardship during the period of bereavement.
Funeral
Arrangements:
IAWV
has also made arrangements with local funeral homes to meet Muslim funeral
requirements at specially negotiated rates.
Teams
of male and female volunteer members are available with all necessary supplies
including shroud, around the clock to help prepare the body for burial according
to Islamic shariaah and traditions.
